You will need to make sure you have the right parakeet cages to keep your new parakeet happy. Make sure that the cage is designed for this type of a small bird. The cage should have bars that have very small gaps in between them. It is also a great idea to purchase a large cage. Find the biggest cage that you are able to buy so that the bird has enough room.
When you purchase parakeet cages, it is a good idea to have a nice swing for the bird. A couple perches should be in the cage as well. It is a good idea to put a cuttlebone in the cage too. This way your parakeet is able to trim down his beak when it needs to.
Keeping parakeet cages clean is going to be very important as well. It is a good idea to go with a cage that has a drawer that you can open to carefully clean up the floor. You can put down special paper on the floor of the cage so that the droppings will be absorbed. It is a good idea to choose a cage that actually has a special grate that is above the very bottom so the bird won’t be on the bottom when it is dirty.
Positioning your parakeet cages in the right place is very important as well. You need to make sure you keep the cage off the floor and put it in an area that is free from drafts. You don’t want your bird to get cold. If you are afraid of a cold draft during the cooler months, you can use towels to cover part of the cage up to keep the draft from being on your bird.
